Fine Arts
Fine Arts Education includes curriculum standards, professional development, and resources for each of the four arts: dance, music, theatre, and visual art. Curriculum standards are all based on the national standards in each of these four arts.

Reading
Reading is the key to unlock all curricula areas. The purpose of this webpage is to assist classroom teachers from kindergarten through 12th grade in the teaching of reading. Professional development opportunities, as well as resources for teachers, will be posted on an on-going basis.

Reading First
The United States Department of Education Office of Elementary and Secondary Education has awarded a Reading First grant to the Tennessee Department of Education. The Office of Reading First in Tennessee is housed in the Division of Teaching and Learning, Department of Curriculum and Instruction.

Local Education Agencies (LEAs)/schools who met the selection criteria had the opportunity to write a Reading First subgrant for children in grades kindergarten (K) through three (3) who are experiencing difficulty in reading. Subgrants were awarded on a competitive basis.

Improving instructional practices which will improve student achievement is an essential component of Reading First. Reading First (Title 1, Part B) is the literacy cornerstone of No Child Left Behind.

Science
The purpose of this page is to provide information and support for implementing standards-based instruction in science. As per the governor's intent to ensure students are adequately prepared with 21st Century skills that enable them to be successful in post- secondary studies and training for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) career fields, cooperative efforts by state science and math curriculum coordinators has resulted in a STEM initiative that is represented by the logo shown above.
